Russian envoy holds dialogue with US representative in Washington

Russia's special envoy for foreign investment and economic cooperation Kirill Dmitriev announced on Thursday that he was holding talks with representatives of U.S. President Donald Trump's administration in Washington.

Dmitriev said on Telegram that he began the two-day talks on Wednesday at the request of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“The dialogue between Russia and the United States, which is the most important thing for the whole world, was completely destroyed under the administration of (former US President Joe) Biden,” Dmitriev said.

The envoy argued that “many forces” want the world to remain tense by “obstructing” the restoration of constructive dialogue in many countries around the world.

“These forces deliberately distort Russia's position, trying to disrupt every step towards dialogue, sparing neither means nor resources,” he added.

Those opposed to rapprochement fear that Russia and the US will find “common ground and start to understand each other better and build cooperation,” both politically and economically, he said.

“Yes, restoring dialogue is a difficult and gradual process. But every meeting, every honest conversation allows us to move forward.

"A clear understanding of Russia's position opens up new opportunities for constructive interaction, including in the investment and economic spheres," he added.
