China urged the United States to correct its wrong implementation of "reciprocal tariffs" and resolve differences in economics and trade with China and other countries through equal, mutually respectful and mutually beneficial negotiations.
The statement was delivered by Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun on Thursday (3/4).
Guo made the remarks at a regular press conference in response to a question about Washington's announcement of "reciprocal tariffs" on major trading partners.
Under
the pretext of "reciprocity", the US has imposed additional tariffs on
exports from China and other countries, seriously violating World Trade
Organization (WTO) rules and seriously damaging the rules-based
multilateral trading system, Guo said.
"The Chinese side firmly opposes this and will take necessary
measures to resolutely safeguard its legitimate rights and interests,"
the spokesperson said.
He also reiterated that there are no winners in trade or tariff wars, and protectionism does not offer a solution.
